Gold Gymnastic Hat trick for Surbiton High School - 23/04/2010
Surbiton High School senior gymnastic squad secured a hat trick of gold medals at the Regional Acrobatic Gymnastics Competition held at The Lady Eleanor Holles School on 29
th March. The Junior team also won two silver medals, making Surbiton High the most successful school in the region.
Abigail Ralph and Katie Axten completed their own hat trick of wins by retaining their Under 19 pairs' title, having won their first gold medal together in 2007. Their exciting and creative performance was flawless and was awarded the highest mark of the whole competition. We look forward to Abi and Katie repeating this performance at the Acrobatic Gymnastics National Finals in May.
Amy Mackenzie and Anne-Marie Seabourne competed together as the U13 pair for the very first time. Their routine was very polished and earned them a gold medal and a place in the National Finals.
This was the first Acrobatic Competition for the Junior Girls' School and their coach Abigail Ralph. Liana Sutherland and her partner Nayha Patel, Michaella Corbett and her partner Rachel Marsh were joined by the youngest pairing of Emily Hancock and Millie Jotischky in the U11 competition. The girls showed no nerves at all and performed their routines to a very high standard. We were thrilled that Michaella and Rachel had won a silver medal and that Nayha and Liana were placed 5th and Mille and Emily 6th. This was an excellent achievement, as they were competing against 13 other schools.
Katie, Abi, Amy and Anne-Marie were joined by Kim Hunter and Jo Jo Perryman to complete the U19 group representing Surbiton High. This senior group event is the highlight of the competition and our girls have worked tirelessly to perfect their new routine. To have six gymnasts performing the same gymnastic moves and skills at the same time is extremely difficult, but Surbiton High excelled and dominated the competition, winning gold and a coveted place in the National Final.
