Surbiton High School gymnasts win National Titles at the 2010 British Championships - 05/07/2010
Our Artistic gymnasts were in action this weekend, competing in the 2010 British Championships, held at the Guildford Spectrum. This is an important date in the gymnastics calendar, when all gymnasts, from all three age groups, compete in one competition for the glory of winning the National Title.
Before half term, Jo Jo Perryman, our most junior gymnast, competed in her preliminary heats. This was a tough competition held in Gloucester and Jo Jo secured a place in Sunday’s National Final.
This was Danusia Francis’ first competition, following the injury which denied her a place in the European Championships. Danusia has regained full fitness and earned her place in the finals of the Senior competition. She was joined by Nicole Hibbert, her good friend, but close rival!
Not to be outshone, Loriah performed extremely well to join the other girls in the top eight of her age group and to compete in the finals.
The final results were phenomenal and a true testament to the hard work and effort the girls have to sustain to compete at such a high level.
The Senior competition is always the ‘one to watch’ as these gymnasts are likely to make up the squad for the 2012 Olympics.
Danusia not only took the National Title on the beam, but also her floor routine was awarded the highest score and the gold medal.
Nicole won a silver medal on bars and a bronze medal on the vault, a fine achievement in a very close Senior competition.
Loriah finished in second place and won a silver medal for her floor routine in the Junior competition.
Jo Jo is at the top of her game and finished in first place in the vault competition, winning her first ever National Title.
This is a remarkable achievement and is the culmination of years of dedication to their sport.
