Breakfast and After School Club

Welcome to the Surbiton High School Breakfast and After School Club.

Outside normal School hours the Breakfast and After School Clubs strive to bring out the best in everyone, to expect the best in everyone, and to support everyone to achieve their personal best in line with the aims and ethos of Surbiton High School. The School motto, "May love always lead us", encourages respect for and service to others.

The clubs are run by Mrs Fiona Meaney assisted by a well qualified and caring staff.

The children have a chance to build relationships with each other and the staff based on mutual respect in a safe, stimulating and happy environment.

They can choose from a wide and varied range of activities and challenges to encourage creativity and independence. On offer are art and craft, junk modelling and playdough, sports such as indoor tennis and cricket, construction kits, board games, and many opportunities for imaginative play. Their efforts and successes are celebrated through ever changing displays, the challenges set and the satisfaction of taking home the results of their efforts.

The children are encouraged to value and respect diversity in individuals, be it cultural, linguistic or special needs. We use books, games, craft projects and celebrating festivals to help us to learn about and feel part of the wider community.

The staff work closely with parents and carers to provide for the children's individual needs and ensure continuity of care.

There is also a quiet comfortable room where children can curl up on a big cushion with a book, watch a film or use a computer. This area is also used for study and homework by the older children.

The four guiding themes of the Early Years Foundation Stage
"The Unique Child"
"Positive Relationships"
"Enabling Environments"
"Learning and Development"
underpin all we do at the After School Club.

Every child under five years is appointed a Key Worker who is responsible for their well being and, by liaising closely with class teachers, parents and carers will help them to settle into their new environment. All the activities are tailored to the children's developmental stage and individual needs.

The staff/child ratio is one staff member to eight children at all times.

The Breakfast Club

Children may be left at the Breakfast Club at any time from 7.30am. After a healthy breakfast of cereals, toast, yoghurt and fruit juice they enjoy quiet activities until it is time for them to be escorted to School in plenty of time for the start of their school day.

The After School Club

The After School Club runs from the end of your child's school day until 6.00 pm. The children are escorted to the Surbiton Assembly Rooms where they are offered a healthy snack of sandwiches, fruit and biscuits before they enjoy the various activities on offer or do their homework.

They may be collected at any time before 6.00 pm.

Bookings can be made by contacting the main school office on 07818 067374 or via email at afterschoolclub@surbitonhigh.com.

As numbers are limited bookings should, if possible, be made at least one week in advance. It is possible to make block bookings for a whole or half term but these need to be renewed for each new term. Notice for the date for booking will be advised in the School weekly newsletter.

Twenty-four hour notice is required for cancellations and non attendance will be charged.

If your child is attending other school based activities our staff can collect them and return them to the After School Club. We are however unable to collect children who are attending off site activities at Hinchley Wood or Esher Cricket Club. Please inform the After School Club if your child needs to be collected from another activity so that she can make a note on the daily register.

The confidential registration form is held by the Club staff and for added security we request a photograph of your child and each parent/collector. Should any of the information on the registration form change please inform Mrs McDonald and supply further photographs if necessary.

Parents will be invoiced on a termly basis and presently the rate is £5 per hour and charged to the nearest quarter of an hour. There is a one off registration fee of £5 payable on registration. We are able to accept childcare vouchers towards payment.
